2023 Fantasy Football Weekly Rankings: Most Accurate Experts (2024)

The 2023 Fantasy Football season is in the books and it’s time to look back on how we got here. It takes a lot to win a fantasy league – drafting, trades, finding gems on the waiver wire – but one of the most important parts is knowing who to start each week. That’s where weekly rankings come in. At FantasyPros we offer start/sit advice through tools like Who Should I Start?, which is powered by rankings from an entire industry of Fantasy Football experts. But whose rankings should you trust? That’s the question we aim to answer with our weekly rankings accuracy competition.

This year we had 167 experts qualify for the competition by submitting weekly half-PPR rankings throughout the season. (We ignore Week 18, and experts can miss one other week and still qualify.) If you want the details on exactly how we measure rankings accuracy, you can check out the full accuracy methodology here. The quick version is this: On a per-position basis, we use templates to interpret expert rankings as fantasy point projections, and then compare those projections to how the players actually performed. We aggregate these scores across the entire season, and then combine the results for QB, RB, WR and TE in order to rank which experts were the most accurate overall. We also track accuracy for DST, K and IDP to recognize achievements at those positions, but they don’t impact overall accuracy.

A huge round of congratulations is in order for this year’s winner, Sean Koerner from The Action Network! There’s a strong case to be made that Koerner is the GOAT of fantasy football. The table below shows Sean’s accuracy rank in each of the 11 years he’s participated in this competition, and it’s nothing short of amazing.

Koerner has never finished worse than 14th in fields of over 100 experts. Sean was already the only expert to finish #1 in multiple years, and now he’s done it four times. This year’s result is good even by his standards. He became the first expert in the history of the competition to be #1 at multiple different positions, and he did it at the two most important positions in fantasy: Wide Receiver and Running Back. If that’s not enough, Sean was also the most accurate expert for Kickers, and the first expert to ever finish top-1o at every position. When you’re choosing which experts to listen to for start/sit decisions, Sean Koerner should be the first name on the list.

There is no shortage of accurate experts. Elisha Twerski from USA Today has now been a top-10 expert in back-to-back years, following up a 9th-place finish last year with 2nd place this year. That includes the feat of being the most accurate expert for quarterbacks in a year that brought a lot of surprises at the QB position. Our third-place expert Joe Bond from Fantasy Six Pack is another mainstay of these leaderboards. He has never had a bad result in 10 years participating, and adds a third top-5 finish to his resume.

Most Accurate Experts at Each Position

Overall accuracy is important, but it’s also important to recognize the experts who absolutely nailed individual positions. Here are your most accurate experts for each position, according to 2023 weekly rankings:

MasterIDP, also known as Leo from RPO Football is a relative newcomer – he is a perfect 2 for 2, finishing as the #1 Individual Defensive Player expert in both his years competing. Leo is at the forefront of a small, exclusive club of true IDP experts.
