LIST | Where to buy recreational marijuana in Ohio and rules for purchase and use (2024)

98 Ohio dispensaries were certified on Tuesday to start selling recreational marijuana. Here's a list - plus the rules for purchasing and using cannabis.

OHIO, USA — The sale of recreational marijuana has officially begun in Ohio after the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control gave Certificates of Operation to 98 dispensaries in the state Tuesday.

The DCC said the certificates do not necessarily mean non-medical sales will begin immediately at every dispensary. Each licensee must determine when to start sales based on staffing, stock and other factors.

So what dispensaries received their dual-use certificates to begin selling recreational marijuana to those 21 and over? Here's the list.

RULES AT OHIO DISPENSARIES

According to the rules set forth by the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control, visitors to a dispensary must provide a valid government ID showing that they are 21 years or older to purchase recreational marijuana.

All visitors to the dispensary will obtain a visitor badge that will be displayed at all times and returned before leaving. Visitors will also be escorted and monitored by an assigned registered employee at all times.

Adults 21 and over can buy and possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis from a dispensary.

CAN YOU USE MARIJUANA IN PUBLIC?

The law states that recreational marijuana consumers are not allowed to use it in public. Those who use non-medical cannabis in public areas are guilty of a minor misdemeanor.

The DCC said Ohio's law prohibiting smoking or vaping in public indoor spaces also applies to marijuana.

CAN YOU DRIVE AFTER USING MARIJUANA?

According to the statute, individuals are prohibited from operating a vehicle, motor vehicle, streetcar, trackless trolley, bike, watercraft, or aircraft while using marijuana or under the influence of cannabis.

CAN YOUR EMPLOYER FIRE YOU FOR USING MARIJUANA?

The Division of Cannabis Control says the law allows employers to fire, discipline, refuse to hire, or take other "adverse employment action" against an individual due to their use, possession, or distribution of marijuana.

They also said that an employer can establish and enforce a drug testing policy, a drug-free workplace policy, or a zero-tolerance drug policy.
